O Obsessed
It has been almost 10 years since Barack Obama left the White House, and Donald Trump still cannot let him go.
That alone says everything. Obama is no longer president. He is not running the government. He is not on the ballot. He is not living inside Trump’s administration. But he is clearly living rent-free inside Trump’s head, and the reason is obvious: Barack Obama is everything Donald Trump has spent his entire life trying to be.
Obama is respected by the people Trump has always wanted to impress. He is admired in rooms where Trump has always wanted validation. He is loved by cultural, academic, global, and political circles that never truly accepted Trump as anything more than a loud rich guy desperate to be taken seriously. That is the wound Trump cannot heal.
Obama earned his rise. He worked for it. He overcame real odds, built a life through discipline and intelligence, and reached the presidency without having everything handed to him by a wealthy father. He carried himself with grace, dignity, and excellence. He spoke like an adult. He treated the office like something bigger than himself. He understood history, responsibility, and restraint.
Trump looks at that and sees the thing he can never buy.
Obama is younger. Better looking. More graceful. More respected. More secure. He has a wife, Michelle Obama, who is brilliant, accomplished, admired, and every bit the equal partner in their public legacy. They represent effort, discipline, education, family, class, and achievement. They are not pretending to be excellent. They are excellent.
That is why Trump cannot move on. His narcissistic, aging mind is still fighting a competition Obama stopped playing years ago. Every insult, every conspiracy, every weird reference, every bitter obsession is just Trump revealing the truth about himself.
He does not hate Obama because Obama failed.
He hates Obama because Obama succeeded in all the ways Trump never could.
