Olivia Miles Is the Real Deal
Olivia Miles is already showing the traits of an elite WNBA point guard.
She is in the perfect system, with the perfect coach, and that matters. Young guards can get swallowed up quickly in this league if the structure around them is wrong. Miles has landed in a situation where her vision, pace, creativity, and feel for the game are going to be fully valued.
That is what separates true point guards from players who simply handle the ball. Miles has the classic point guard gift: she makes everyone around her better. She sees things early. She delivers the ball on time. She understands tempo. She knows when to push, when to organize, and when to let the game breathe.
That is rare.
This rookie class could end up being remembered as a special point guard class because Kiki Rice has many of those same Sue Bird-like qualities. Both players understand the position beyond scoring. They think the game, organize teammates, and naturally create better shots for everyone else on the floor.
Miles’ decision to spend a season playing for Mark Campbell at TCU looks even smarter now. That move showed tremendous awareness and maturity. She could have rushed the process or chased a louder path, but instead chose a situation that helped sharpen her game and prepare her for the next level.
That says a lot.
It made her a better player, but the bigger point is the recognition. Miles understood the long game. She understood development. She understood fit.
That kind of maturity usually travels well.
She is going to be a great one, and it is no surprise she is already a considerable favorite to win Rookie of the Year. The talent is obvious, but the command is what stands out most. Olivia Miles does not just look like a good rookie.
She looks like a franchise point guard.
